Wow, there's a nice deal on slickdeals actually:

Code:
    Intel Core i5-2430M (2.4GHz)
    15.6" WLED (1366x768) Display
650GB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM)
    4GB DDR3 Memory
    8X DVD +/- RW Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M 1GB graphics
    6-Cell Battery
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
For 479 USD with the 25% off coupons they have. Sadly, it's all "Refurbished" not that it means it isn't "like new"

When it comes to Refurbished components or pre-builts, my rule of thumb is just to stay away. The components may be fine when you get them, but they come with a drastically reduced warranty time period which is why they're generally cheaper (Usually 90 day warranty). So a year or two down the line, something goes out in the laptop...you don't have the option to send it into the manufacturer and have it serviced for free, so you either need to take it to a shop and pay a premium OR just buy a new laptop/component/whatever.

Refurb items otherwise are great, Mice, Tablets, Keyboards, stuff like that I recommend buying refurbished if you're shopping, because they're usually cheap and you normally don't look toward warranty for those types of items if they mess up a year or so down the line, you just simply replace it (unless it's something high end of coarse).

I'd highly recommend buying newegg "open box" laptops or components over any refurbished items because open box items retain full manufacturer warranty But ultimately it depends on the buyer, some don't mind but I personally do, I like to have a bit of a safety net in my components otherwise they can quickly become a money sink.

I think I've came across some refurbs that offer a lengthy warranty although I personally stay away from refurbs just because I'm so paranoid.

It's up to the customer, read the descriptions/info etc carefully.

My Bamboo CTL-460 that was refurbished came with a 1 Year Warranty, that's about the longest I've ever seen a refurb warranty for. Majority of refurbs have 30-90 warranty, don't assume otherwise unless clearly stated.
