The guy behind First Look videos

I'm not going to come at this guy directly, I'm sure he's very nice and good intentioned. But I have actually gone out of my way here to share how I feel about his commentary because of how unbelievably inaccurate it is.

For about 4 to 5 games in a row I have seen him play in a "first look" perspective, he has said a lot of information about the game that is just plain wrong and misleading to people out there. Things that he claims you can't do in a game because he has not figured it out himself that you actually CAN do. He just overall gives every single game he plays a bad look to it on its learning curve and its features, regardless of the quality of the game.

I understand it's meant to be a "first look" perspective, as if he is playing it for the first time. But he even mentions he has played the game in the past (which it doesn't look like it AT ALL mind you. Basic controls and concepts, while should be innately known by people who honestly play video games mind you, are not his strong suit). Honestly, if he just said he ASSUMED or he THINKS when he says his statements about the game and what it consists of, I wouldn't be nearly as offended by him.

Does anyone else find themselves questioning his knowledge as a critic in MMO's when looking at games that you actually know about in his First Look videos?

I agree he dose not give accurate information but that why its first look and thats why he keeps repeating Robot like line at the beginning all the time. This first look idea is to show how the game looks and how it feels not to give you full review on it. Yet i suggested idea how to fix this problem not sure if my idea was even taken in account or looked at but I'm not going to complain.

Well Remo basically just tells about his first impression in those videos. They might not be accurate but they are true to how he felt the game is like in the few hours he played it. If he didn't "figure out" that the game has a certain feature it actually also tells us that the feature is not obvious enough.

Though I'm not even going to discuss this further because you didn't even give examples. I mean really, if you already complain at least give some examples to proof your point.

Another factor is that Remo usually does first looks during open beta, that means features that came after beta are usually not covered anyway. Just like he says MapleStory has no PVP, although PVP was added recently.

Edit: By the way, when I watch the first look I hardly listen to what Remo says but rather watch how the game plays like. It tells much more than anything he says. Remo does some good jokes sometimes, though. I like him. =3

If you want an accurate review look at the full review page of a game.

Omer just shows you what it's like to start a game without doing much research because most people don't research the game they are going to play.

Examples would include Mu Online (not during the beta), City of Heroes (not during the beta), Champions Online (not beta), Guild Wars (not beta).

I realize it is meant to be a first look perspective, but the way he conveys his information is as if it was accurate. Guild Wars example: "Mesmers are about debuffing not damaging the enemy". This is untrue, many skills do damage for their profession. City of Heroes example: When he first sees the Defender archtype he starts to say it is the "tank/support" type role, and then sees Tanker and says they are the best tanks.

The way he made his comment was as if he had read and understood what he was talking about to inform us about the game instead of "the defender must be a tank I GUESS" or "not tank, never mind, the tanker SEEMS to be the tank".

If he had said "I think" or "I believe" or "I'm unsure but" in the majority of his comments I wouldn't mind. He just presents these as more of a review on the free trial accounts rather than an ACTUAL first look.
