Top 5 Best Anime MMORPGs

There are a LOT of free MMORPGs on the market and in this ‘Top best’ MMORPG list, we’ll be looking at the top 5 best anime MMORPGs. It seems like a good 95% of free MMORPGs are based off of anime art styles, but in this list we’re only going to focus on the game’s that are truly anime inspired rather than those that just have somewhat anime graphics. Odds are most free MMORPGs have anime art styles because they originate in the East, mostly in Korea and Japan.  The top 5 Best Anime Style MMORPG Games  list below was compiled using review data from across the internet and from our own reviews here on MMOHut. If you’re looking for the best Anime  MMORPG to play, you’re at the right place.

Top 5 Best Anime MMORPGs / MMOs

#1 MapleStory

Maple Story is a 2D Side Scrolling MMORPG published by the Korean MMO company Nexon. The game has cute anime styled graphics. The game is enormously popular all around with world and its success led to the development of a fully fledged anime television series based on the game’s cartoony characters and graphics.

#2 Grand Fantasia

Grand Fantasia is a top notch anime MMORPG published by Aeria Games. It has really sleek cel-shaded graphics, a whole bunch of playable classes and a neat in game pet system. There are plenty of quests in Grand Fantasia too, so you never need to outright grind!

#3 Fly For Fun (Flyff)

Fly for Fun, usually shortened as Flyff, is a 3D anime styled MMORPG published by Gpotato. The game is enormously popular worldwide and was even hailed as the best online game by Korea’s Ministry of Culture in 2004. Fly For Fun was actually one of the first free MMORPGs to offer flying mounts for players.

#4 Mabinogi

Mabinogi: Fantasy Life, or just Mabinogi for Short, is a more traditional anime styled MMORPG by Nexon. The game actually has a unique artstyle that I haven’t seen in any other game, as the game features hand-painted textures and unique artsy graphics.

#5 Cloud Nine

cloud-nine-30-dps

Cloud Nine is a 3D anime inspired fantasy MMORPG published by Netgame. It’s actually a vastly upgraded version of Holic Online, The music, graphics, and gameplay are all extremely well done. The graphics are bright and a bit cute. It’s well worth checking out.

Honorable mentions: Bright Shadow, Soul Master, Trickster Online and WonderKing

Bad outdated list is bad and outdated.

Trickster should be at last, mabinogi possibly should be in first, DOMO should be below it, FlyFF should be below DOMO, and maple story shouldn’t even be up there anymore, because it’s repetitive, grindy and revolves around a cash shop.

Domo got boring really fast for me. Couldn’t stand FlyFF or Mabinogi. I’m pretty sure I’ve played Trickster a while back… but I cant remember what it was like. I didn’t play it for very long so I don’t think I enjoyed it for long. Maplestory. I spent hundreds of dollars on that game, mostly on outfits. DO NOT DO WHAT I DID!!!! It used to be fun, and its good for new players up until level 20, but then it gets boring, and “grindy” as previously noted by glazed. I’ve recently been playing Lost Saga and the only real problem I have with it is the fact that you can’t customize anything for free, you have to pay real money just to be a girl! That made me a bit angry because as a girl, I’d like to portray my own gender. I think I’ll still play it for a while longer though. Maybe. However, I have to say the most fun I’ve had out of these 5 is Lost Saga but the game I think looked the best graphics-wise was Maplestory. This is mostly because for one, I love 2D games. But then again… Nexon never seems to get any of their games right. There’s always something missing, or at least thats what people say. For anyone out there reading this, hoping to get an Idea for the next game to play: Try all of them. They’re all mostly free I think anyways, and besides, my opinion is not the same as yours most likely, so any personal recommendation is probably useless. I’m somewhat happy with EVE online (Free 14 trial for now) but it’s not Anime so don’t get your hopes up, as well as it’s a monthly Pay to Play game. I don’t know why you would want to, but if you do need to get in touch with me, heres me E-Mail (I don’t know if it says it or not…)

I tried all these except Cloud Nine, which I shall try now x3
All exceptional games, but I think I’ll have a different order and not have MapleStory
    1) Mabinogi – Unique game with a lot to do as it said
    2) Flyff – Although it’s grinding based, the flying on it is very good.
    3) Soul Master – Although it’s a new game and therefore I haven’t got much of a chance to play on it yet, it does look very good and I think it’s a game I’ll be continuing for a long while
    4) Grand Fantasia – I love the Sprites, all very cute and everything :)
    5) Iris Online – Yet to be released in English, and despite I don’t understand the Japanese version, I found it very cute. It graphics similar to Luna [Which would've been my 6th choice] but much more to it with stuff such as Morphs and Mounts and wide selection of classes, and you don’t even have to pay extra to get them ;) For those wondering, gPotato will be releasing this in English late 2010.

Other games to consider: Luna Online as I said before, Florendia with the sail system and I quite like the look of Legend of Edda, but I haven’t tried that out yet as it’ll be released on Fall 2010. ^^

But, this is just my opinion ;)
